THE EFFECT:
The Mentalist shows a normal deck of playing cards used commonly for playing poker. The spectator then shuffles these and lays them out on the table. When he/she is finished, the deck is ribbon spread upon the table by the spectator. They are now asked to choose any five cards for the experiment; the rest of the deck is set aside or returned to its case.
From the remaining 5 cards the spectator now selects one of the 5 cards and that selection is laid aside. The other 4 cards are shuffled and the selection is returned to the packet. The packet is again shuffled and the cards are placed in a row face down on the table. The mentalist concentrates and locates the selected card.
- - The cards are not marked.
- - The cards used are not cards with picture backs.
- - No duplicates.
- - The mentalist never touches the cards.
- - You can use a new unopened deck of cards brought to you by a spectator. (Whom you do not know.)
- - The card can be signed.
- - Can be done with more than five cards.
- - This can be done with your back turned.
- - Uses real cards.

- - No fakes, gimmicks, or gaffs.
