Review of B.U.I.- Bottled Up Inside

The Effect:
Imagine walking over to anyone anywhere and asking to borrow their empty water bottle. Have them rip the label from the bottle to allow a perfect view. Have them recap the bottle. They place the bottle into your empty hand. Next you borrow a finger ring. In an open view you simply toss the ring through the bottom of the bottle. They see and hear the ring rattling around inside the bottle! You remove the cap and pour the ring out from the mouth of the bottle. Leave everything with them and walk away amongst the accolades of disbelief!
Same scenario as above; a bottle is borrowed. You recap the bottle. Borrow a penny from someone. Place the penny in your open outstretched palm. Take the empty bottle in your other hand. "Watch the penny; watch the bottle." As you say this, the bottle is slapped upon the penny. Instantly and visibly, the penny is seen to have penetrated the bottle in full view. Leave the bottle with the penny trapped inside with your spectator as a gift. The Magi was here!
I'm new to magic, can I do it?
Yes. This effect, created by Howard Baltus, is relatively easy to do. You can manage it. It's basically the same principle as Kevin Parker's Passing thru. The difference is the object your putting into the bottle and how it's routined.
Will I use it?
Sure. This method of ring through bottle is very clever. It's easy to perform. You don't have to carry around any bulky gimmicks. The ring and the water bottle are borrowed. The second part of the routine leaves the spectator with a souvenir, which is always a nice touch.
The instructional DVD is good. As always, you watch it for the method and notes from the creator of the effect. Howard shows you a clip of the trick in action. The clip shows you the impact the effect has on spectators. He then teaches you how to make the gimmick needed for the effect. You then learn the performance of the trick step by step. Howard covers the performance of the effect with a ring and a bottle (effect 1), as well as with a penny and a bottle (effect 2).
Is it better than other bottle effects?
Can't lie to ya, Kevin Parker's Passing thru is the preferred effect. However, if you wanted to put a ring in a bottle, this would work... This method is not bad, it serves many magicians well, it's just not as good as Passing Thru.
Is it repeatable?
There's a saying,"Once is entertainment, twice is education." Of course, you can repeat it. Repeating the effect for the same audience right after you perform it: not suggested. That goes for any trick, the audience knows what to expect, so their looking for the solution the second time through. The gimmick packs small, and is reusable.
Is it worth the price?
Yes. If you grab one of the two copies we have. Other places will charge you more for it. We only have two. And they're going for $20.
